Ways to Keep Homemade Tortillas Fresh

So you've made a couple of batches of tortillas from scratch--but there's too much to have in just one sitting. The next obvious move is to keep the excess wraps on the fridge for a later meal. But being on the storage for days, your homemade tortillas won't have the same delectable moist and soft texture as the freshly-made ones. Do you resort to just dumping them all away then?
No, they can still be saved! With a little heat, they get soft and pliable again. Here are some ways to do it!
Oven
Preheat the oven to 250 F/120 C. Wrap a stack of tortillas in a damp dish towel and place them in your usual oven-friendly dish. Cover the dish with a lid or a piece of aluminum foil. Reheat for 20 minutes.
Microwave
Most people wouldn't suggest reheating tortillas in a microwave, arguing that it would change the tortilla's texture. But if a microwave is the most accessible item in your kitchen right now, don't worry, we have a simple hack for you! Put a tortilla on a plate and cover it with a damp paper towel. Alternate tortillas with paper towels if you're reheating more than one at a time. Microwave on high for 30 seconds to one minute, depending on how many tortillas you have in a batch.

Griddle
If your tortillas were just made several hours ago, a griddle will do. If you want, you can first melt a little butter in the pan. Place the tortillas on the hot surface in a single layer, turning after about 30 seconds to heat evenly.

Open flame
This is one of the most common reheating techniques in Mexico, usually applied to really stiff corn tortillas. Wet a single tortilla completely under the faucet and place it directly on the open flame of a gas stove. Leave it a few seconds, then turn the tortilla over. Keep “roasting” and turning your tortilla until it has heated and dried to your liking.

Keeping your homemade tortillas soft after reheating

Once the homemade tortillas are heated, you would want to keep them warm for much longer. So wrap them in a damp towel and transfer them to a tortilla warmer to keep them nice and hot. StarBlue's special Ceramic Tortilla Warmer has over one-hour heat retention, thanks to its double-wall structure and quality food-grade ceramic material! It also comes with a lid! Plus, it's mircrowave safe!
