Made perfect taco shells

Taco Shell Tongs for Frying by StarBlue

These taco shell tongs work, and do a great job of hanging onto the tortilla, my big issue is that it makes them wide on the base. Trying to eat the tacos we made with this was difficult. The first bite in and the taco was falling apart because there is no way to get both sides of the taco without trying to put some pressure to get them to join, and then pop.... taco salad on the plate. It is really easy to use. The handle is a little short so my finger caught the edge of my fryer while trying to get the back end in, but that was my bad. The handle on these tongs stay nice and cool. The frame is very sturdy and does not bend while using it. I did like that the shells were crunchy and fresh, not stale like I usually get with store bought ones. It definitely works as described, and if you like the stand and stuff style shells, than this little guy is for you. For the price, it's a good deal because we don't have to throw away stale taco shells any more. I am happy with this product.

Easy and quick to use

I ordered this tool to make fresh hard shelled tacos at home. I love cooking new homemade foods and felt this was the perfect tool because I love cooking Mexican inspired dishes for my family and we love tacos! Using this tool was fairly easy and allowed me to fry up taco shells pretty quickly, I made about 10 of them in just a few minutes. Frying anything, especially with this type of tool, does take a lot of oil so that is a bit of an inconvenience when using. It is a bit tricky putting new shells in place as they don't always go in the right way and you want to avoid touching the tongs so you don't accidently burn your hands or fingers (lesson learned the hard way). Once they shells were in place, the tool was very simple to use and didn't have any issues with the tortilla falling out or tearing apart. They did have the tendency to stick to the tongs. My main issue is that this tool made the shells pretty wide. My kids had a harder time eating these because the shell isn't really formed like the standard taco shell, it is wider and more open. I feel like that made them a bit more prone to breaking while eating. It did allow more toppings but if you are like me and fold your tacos and eat them sideways, the way the tacos are formed with this tool won't really work for that style. Other than that issue, I really do like this tool and plan on using it when I'm craving some tacos!

Results equal perfection

Yes, they are a bit awkward and bulky. If you can get past that, they are truly helpful. It's easy to grip and handle. You don't have to do any crazy maneuvers to get the perfect taco shell. Slide the tortilla in, dip in oil, repeat for opposite side and voila! The perfect taco shell! It washes easily and can be used in the top tack of the dushwasher. The price is reasonable; especially because the set looks to be of good quality. I would absolutely spread the word of this helpful tool!

Taco fryer is a great idea with about a 90% successful design

The first thing you are going to want to know about this taco shell fryer is it does work. The next thing ou want to know is you need A LOT of oil to pull it off.I thought I would be able to put some oil in a small fry pan and cook each side, but the way this thing is shaped, it just won’t fit down in a small skillet. So I had to use a larger skillet, and about 1.5x more oil than I thought I would need. It was a ton of oil to waste to make four taco shells. You almost need a deep fryer to really do it right. That being said, you can pull it off with a skillet. The device itself fits a taco-sized corn tortilla perfectly. It operates like scissors, and opens and closes smoothly. It is almost a great design, in that it isn’t quite easy to use it in a skillet. But it is good enough to get the cooking done.It is super easy to use. Just scissor it open, drop your tortilla in, close, and put it in the hot oil. Just open and let the coooked taco shell drop onto your plate or whatever, and replace with a fresh tortilla, and repeat. Just be careful when putting the new one in there. I burned my finger once when I was trying to go too fast. But that is really my fault, and nothing to do with the design.Price is pretty decent, so a pretty fair deal for what you pay. I like the device, and will use it probably more than most people, because i LOVE tacos.

Where has this thing been all my life?

I wish I had one of these for the past 20 years! Love tacos, and I'm that person who's always stuffing way too much into mine, so this is perfect for maximizing filling/topping space. If you're reading this, you probably already know that frying your own shells is WAY better than the lame store-bought ones, and this finally makes it easy for me to get the shaping right while frying. It's the perfect size for standard corn tortillas. The jaw opens past 90 degrees, so there's tons of room to get the tortillas in and out. The only downside is just its overall size and the little bit of extra effort to clean it, but that's totally worth it!

Taco Tongs!

These tongs really need to be used with a deep fryer. You could theoretically use them and just rotate the tortilla to cook it all in a shallower cooking dish, but it's best to use a large pot or deep fryer. It would be nice if you could sandwich multiple instead of just frying one shell at a time, but you can't do that without the risk of the tortillas sticking together or not cooking properly. These do make a taco shell with a pretty wide bottom, which is great for stuffing but not so great for eating, so you may choose to bend it slightly more "closed" when you use it. The metal does bend pretty easily, so this isn't a big deal. I have no problem recommending these for just a few taco shells, but you'll have to start early if you're planning a big taco party with all your friends.

Works well, makes good taco shells

I like making hardshell tacos once in a while and I thought this might make it easier and it does work well. This makes taco shells like the kind you buy in premade in a package but of course they taste better because they’re freshly fried. I had originally planned to use this in my small deep fryer but my deep fryer was too small for these taco tongs to fit all the way in so I went back to the cast-iron skillet. For these tongs to work you have to have at least 3/4 of an inch of oil in your skillet in order to get all of the taco shell submerged in the oil. And then you have to flip it from side to side frying one side at a time. But it works out well that way. You have to be careful removing the taco shell and putting a new fresh tortilla in the hot tongs because the tongs are extremely hot and you can burn yourself if you’re not careful. I would suggest you use a chopstick or something like that to poke the taco shell out because it does get a little stuck after it’s fried but it’s not hard to get it out. Once you get the right oil temperature figured out, not too hot, you can start turning out your shells pretty easily. The outside of the shells do get a little darker more quickly than the inside of the shell because they’re facing the bottom of the skillet the whole time so you can’t have the heat too high or the outside will get browned before the inside is fully fried. But it works pretty well and it makes good taco shells. I was using small tortillas and there was room to spare for larger tortillas so it’s a good size for small tortillas or fajita size tortillas. It seems pretty solid. For $15 it seems a little pricey to me but not too bad if your going to use it a lot.

Crisp Tacos Made Easy

I've been making homemade crisp tacos for years and have just used regular tongs to try to make the perfect shell. It usually resulted in getting splattered with cooking oil or a weird shaped shell. This Taco mold custom tongue makes it easy and simple. If you use a lot of oil, you can simply dip it in and pull it out or if you use a small amount of oil you can cook it one side at a time. Either way, this is a game changer!

I gifted the Cheese Board Set to my sister for her housewarming, and she hasn’t stopped using it. The oak wood feels premium, and the utensils cut cheese smoothly. Guests always compliment how elegant it looks.

I bought the StarBlue Hamburger Grill Maker for weekend cookouts, and it’s now my go-to. Beyond burgers, we use it for eggs, bacon, toast, and even veggies—so versatile that breakfast is quicker and tastier than ever.

The Roti Maker has cut my cooking time in half. Instead of rolling and cooking one by one, I can prepare multiple in minutes. It’s a real time-saver, especially for busy family dinners.

Anita Patel

The Takoyaki Maker is amazing. I used to only enjoy takoyaki at restaurants, but now I can make 18 at a time at home. The included picks made flipping easy, and the flavor turned out authentic.
