I've been using this style of jar opener for 50+ years. I still have one of the original Edlund Top-Off's from the 1940's from which this product's design is copied. It is course made of chepaer materials - the metal parts are not as thick and are little wobblier than the originals. The handle is wood instead of this hard plastic from the original, the wood being less sturdy than this old-style-plastic. This product is also taller (see picture) which makes it harder to use and less safe as the center of force (your twisting hand) is now farther away higher from the lid than the original designs. The new design also has a maximum lid size that is slightly smaller due to the thinner metals and the grip on the lid.While it's a third-party remake of the original, now-expired Edlund patent, it does work well for what it does. Provided your lid fits these jaws (fits lids up to about 4" is diameter), it works better than any other jar lid opener out there. But I still do favor my 1940's Edlund opener until I lose it, it somehow fails after 80+ years, or somebody steals it out of envy and jealousy :-)

Very simple to use clever design that takes advantage of simple leverage.When you place this on a bottle lid and twist counter-clockwise, the clamp tightens and grips onto the lid. Once the clamp is fully engaged, then all the force of the twisting motion is transferred into torque, easily and instantly twisting off the lid.Tried this on the hardest thing I've ever tried to do manually which was twisting off a new pickle jar lid and it came off almost effortlessly. This is honestly on the level of the invention of the screwdriver. Now that it exists, there's pretty much no need for any of those other clumsy awkward lid openers like giant rubber bands, under cabinet mounted things, large clamp like devices, and other such things.This thing is small, functional, and well built, and there's nothing I can see that would prevent this lasting probably forever.

Didn’t take a lot of force to open a jar.

I had my husband "normal tighten” (for him) a pickle jar and a bottle and this made it so i could open it! He works on heavy trucks and I'm a housewife. It works and comes with replacement grippers. I think this will be a good aid to someone with weak or arthritic hands, or who just lives with someone who is prone to over-tightening things.

I have found it more difficult to open jars. This jar opener is easy to operate. Solid wood handle. Stainless steel with rubber grips. Bonus extra rubber grips. Opens various sized jars with ease. Very good value for the money. This will be used time after time.

This StarBlue jar opener works better than expected. It is easy to use and makes opening jars a breeze. The wooden handle is smooth and easy to turn to grip lids. It comes with an extra set of rubber tips for gripping jars. If they wear out or get lost I’m not sure what I will do then, but in the meantime they work well and save my hands from straining to open stubborn jar lids.

Clever and helpful tool to open tough jars! This is adjustable to almost any size jar and the wood handle is sturdy and good quality. It's made from wood so suggest hand washing it if needed. The handle is thick enough to grab and hold easily which makes it great for those like me with arthritis and carpel tunnel. It's small enough to easily fit in a kitchen drawer. This tool has already become a staple in my kitchen in a short time! The price is a great value for the money too.

This tool is perfect for people with arthritis or any other condition that makes it hard to get a good grip on a bottle cap or jar lid. You'll need to manually close the gripper section on the cap or lid, but then when your turn the handle counterclockwise it tightens down and loosens the most stubborn cap or lid. Comes with an extra set of rubber gripper pads.Note that it works well with juice bottle, standard-size lids for, say, a jar of mayo or apple sauce, but it does not span the diameter of a large jar of peanut butter (see photos).

This is a modern uptake to my parents 1950s jar opener. When I was younger, I thought well I’ll never need something like that. But I’m really glad that they have it. Now that I’m older. I’ve been looking for something like this. This is exactly what I was looking for. It works perfectly on those jars that are sealed just a little too tight, and the hot water, and the tapping on the side doesn’t always work. This jar opener stays while attached and little pressure is used to make a twisting turn to open it. This jar opener has two rubber grips and comes with two extra ones. It appears to very well made and high quality.

Pros: Very easy to figure out. You spin one way and it widens and spinning the other way closes it. Once you close it, you just need to keep spinning in the same direction. It takes the pressure off your hands and you don’t have to worry about whether your hand fits around it. It also came with two extra grips.Cons: The depth of the grip is very shallow and prevented it from getting further down the lid.

I had my doubts about this jar opener, but since my wrist injury, I’ve had days where I was trying to use the grippy side of a silicone pot holder to try to break into a jar of pickles. This legitimately works, and is easy peasy to use. The handle is smooth to operate and can be used right or left handed. This device closes down small enough to open a bottle of soda, and more than wide enough to open a wide-mouth jar of spaghetti sauce. You receive an extra set of replacement grips, but I can’t imagine the one’s already on the device wearing out any time soon, so my best advice is to tape these inside the utensil drawer so you don’t lose them. The asking price is not at all expensive for the craftsmanship and legitimate ease of use.

Once secured on a lid, it stays in place and provides excellent leverage for opening tight or stuck jars. I tested it on several jar sizes and it worked reliably across all of them.It also includes two spare rubber grip pieces, which is a nice touch and helps extend the life of the tool. The added grip makes a noticeable difference on slick lids.Overall, this device is easy to use, well thought out, and does exactly what it is supposed to do. A practical and effective tool, especially helpful for anyone with limited grip strength, but useful in any kitchen.

Handle fits great in your hand. Not heavy. It tightens more as you turn left. Can be used in many sizes of lids. Extra rubber feet in case any are lost or ruined. Definitely worth getting is you sometimes need assistance with opening jars.

This is like some kind of medieval looking device but what it's actually a really well made and designed jar opener that functions well. When my parents visit the cabin there is always a challenge of opening some jars and though I also have the seal breaking type opener this is an additional device that is perhaps a little more useful. Sometimes even after breaking the seal the lid refuses to give this went right to task and performed well. It's really a grip enhancer I guess.A great value for the money for a useful tool that works on hard to open jars. It could be better if it opened a little bit wider since i feel there are some lids that will be wider. That being said I haven't encountered any yet.

WOW!!!! Not only is this super pretty, and vintage looking, but IT WORKS! I am amazed at how easy this little jar opening tool is! My hands are 70 years old, so I need help to open the tough jars, and I have used quite a few of the contraptions they have come out with to help, but THIS ONE IS THE TOP OF THE LINE for success and ease of opening the toughest jars. It will spread open to fit over a 4 inch wide jar, and all the way down to a twist off soda cap. This has made opening my jars so easy!In the box is the opener, as well as two sets of silicone gripping teeth to slide over the metal teeth of the unit, so it will grab your jar, and never slip. Do take a minute to be sure you slip one set over the metal teeth securely, before you start using it. The handle is so comfortable in my hand. I am absolutely thrilled about this, and it will stay with me as long as I am opening jars. lol No need to ever try another jar opening contraption; THIS ONE IS THE BEST!

I got this to put in the kitchen for troublesome Jars. It seems several times a month there is a jar that needs multiple people to wrestle with. Everyone has their pet technique for jar lids, whether its rapping the lid with a knife handle, running it under hot water, or even using rubber band to get a better grip. Well, I think those days are over, because this thing will open jars better than any of the aforementioned solutions. I tested it out here on a pickle jar, and it worked flawlessly. It will expand or contract to any jar size. Very well made, with solid gears and a shiny finish. It comes with a pair of extra grippers.
